About Us

“Do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you.

Do not be afraid to dream of great things”

Pope Francis

At Scoil Naomh Bhríde we aim to ensure that the needs of all our children are met in all areas of school life and that each child is given a wealth of experience and opportunities. This in turn, will guarantee that they leave Scoil Naomh Bhríde at the end of 6th class feeling confident, responsible and competent members of society, ready for their Secondary School journey.

We believe that school should be a happy, caring, spiritual and hardworking environment in which all staff should utilise their skills to enable the children in their care to recognise their true potential and talents. As a Catholic community, we endeavour to celebrate the successes of the children in all areas of school life by showing them that we believe in them and are proud of them.

We look forward to watching your children grow in confidence, knowledge and spirituality during their time in Scoil Naomh Bhríde and thank you in advance for the support I know you will give all members of our school community in the years to come.

History of our School

Our school has undergone extensive changes over the years. We were granted a new school by the Department of Education and Skills in 2006. Kenaiden Contractors were awarded the contract for the building of the new school and they commenced work in October 2008. The new school building was blessed by the Patron of our school, Bishop John Fleming on 30th August 2009 and the school building was opened to children, staff and parents on the 31st August 2009.

Scoil Naomh Bhríde was officially opened by An Taoiseach Mr. Enda Kenny on the 13th May 2011. The new school building is located in the heart of Ballycroy and comprises of:

  • Three classrooms
  • Large dining room (seomra bia)
  • Kitchen
  • ICT suite
  • Well stocked library
  • Assembly area
  • Resource room
  • All classes enjoy the benefit of interactive whiteboards and tablets.
  • Staff room
  • Principal’s office

The old school in Drumslide village was granted on the 8th October 1867 and was opened on the 12th May 1869. The building had two rooms, a toilet, eight windows and a slated roof.

The school was in use until 1945 when another National school was built on a site approximately 50 yards from the original school above.

Our new school was granted in March 2006 and was opened in September 2009.

Children that cannot tie their own shoelaces should wear shoes with velcro fastenings. This should eliminate any nasty accidents that would occur due to laces becoming untied.

On P.E. days, the children should wear tracksuit bottoms and runners. The P.E. day will be Fridays throughout the school year.

Please make sure all uniform items are clearly labelled.

We are also asking that for Health and Safety reasons, jewellery is not worn at school.

Attendance/Absences

It is important that your child maintains a high level of attendance at school. Establishing good attendance habits from the very beginning of your child's time in school is extremely beneficial to his/her development. Your help in ensuring that appointments are made outside of school times is very much appreciated.  If a child is not coming to school, please ring or send a note with a sibling.

Please provide a written explanation of your child's absences. This can be recorded in your child's homework diary.
